The cross above Nocelle

It had rained for the last two days, then suddenly on the last morning of the Christmas school holidays it was bright and sunny again. We decided to walk from Montepertuso up to Nocelle (a tiny suburb of Positano up high). The plan was to walk up the road and then walk down the steps from Nocelle to the road.
But then we came across a man who said he'd recently hiked up to the cross above Nocelle and we all thought that sounded more fun than walking down into town.  I had been there once 15 years ago, but didn't remember much except that the cross was bigger than I had expected. So as soon as we arrived at the end of the road we took the staircase on the left of the Nocelle car park and headed up...
And up...
And up...
It's an easy path to follow, it just goes up a lot. We took sandwiches and drinks and there were plenty of natural waterfalls and ponds for Holly to drink from.

Eventually after a steep climb through a wooded area you'll see a gap in the railings. The cross is just down through the gap, you can't see it from the path. (Yes, we missed it and spent another 40 minutes hiking along the mountain before we realised we'd gone past it.)

So when you see the gap on your right, stop and look. The cross really is perched on the edge of the cliff....
It sort of makes you want to sit down and cling to the ground....
Apart from Mr Fearless who scrambled down to see how the view was from the edge...
Not a bad place to stop for sandwiches eh?
After lunch we were going to just go back down again, but of course we got sidetracked by an unexplored pathway and decided to see where it led. Hmmm, we thought we were high up the mountain already, but we ended up a lot higher than we expected...
To be continued (due to not wanting to overwhelm you with too many photos in just one post!).
